14-year-old charged with hate crime after listing Black classmate on Craigslist as a ‘slave for sale’
A white Naperville, Illinois teenager is in hot water with police after he posted a picture of his Black classmate on Craigslist and listed him as a “slave for sale,” along with a racial slur.
The 14-year-old, who attends Naperville Central High School, is now being charged with a hate crime and Naperville police chief, Robert Marshall, issued a statement calling the act a “despicable and extremely offensive post that is not at all reflective of the caring, welcoming community that our department serves and protects every day,” according to BuzzFeed News.

The student was arrested on Nov. 19 on two counts of a felony hate crime and one count of disorderly conduct. He appeared in court on Nov. 20 before Judge Anthony Coco, according to a press release put out by Marshall and DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert B. Berlin.
“Every single person deserves the right to feel safe and welcome in our community, and this department will continue to strive to make that a reality by thoroughly investigating any allegations of hate crimes and bringing those found responsible to justice,” Marshall said in the release.
“I would like to express my appreciation to our school resource officer and supervisor who conducted a timely, thorough, detailed investigation.”
Added Berlin: “The allegations against the juvenile in this case are beyond disturbing. Hate crimes have no place in our society and will not be tolerated in DuPage County. Anyone, regardless of age, accused of such disgraceful actions will be charged accordingly.”

Naperville Central High School Principal Bill Wiesbrook sent an email out to parents about the incident, saying students are “accountable for their behavior” adding that the white student’s post was ‘not reflective’ of the entire school.
The Black victim’s mom spoke to WGN News about the incident but asked to be kept anonymous.
“They used to be friends,” the mom told the station. “They are not anymore. The moment he started teasing my son, calling him dumb, making fun of his skin color, saying ‘shut up slave’ last October,’ ended that,” she said.

Chris Brown and Ammika Harris reportedly welcome a baby boy
That Instagram photo tells it all: Chris Brown is a new daddy!
At least that is what his fans are saying.
Brown reportedly welcomed a baby boy with his on-again, off-again girlfriend, Ammika Harris, on Thursday, capping off a wonderful year for the singer, according to HotNewHipHop.com. Brown took to Instagram where he shared a happy photo of himself smiling at something just beyond the camera’s lens. He captioned the photo simply: “11-20-2019.”

That photo by itself doesn’t necessarily indicate the arrival of a baby boy, however, the Indigo singer later posted another photo of himself wearing a hoodie emblazoned with the word “BORN” on it.
And on top of this, Harris, a model, also took to IG and posted this message on her IG story: “I was in love, when I first saw you.”
Awwwww.
Back in May, Brown got the rumor mill buzzing when he added “BM” to Harris’s comments on one of her posts. Many believe BM to mean “Baby Mama.”
The pair was a couple in the summer of 2018 but reportedly broke up earlier this year, according to news outlets. In recent months, outlets report they may be back together again.
In any event, this has been a memorable year for Brown as he kicked off his successful IndiGOAT tour with Tory Lanez, Joyner Lucas, Ty Dolla $ign and Yella Breezy.

The baby boy is Harris’ first child and Brown’s second. Brown has an adorable, 5-year-old daughter named Royalty Brown, by Nia Guzman, with whom he shares custody. In a recent photo with Royalty, Brown captioned it “God gave me an angel.”
It appears God has now given him two. Blessings upon blessings.
We’re super happy for Brown and Harris. We send them our congrats and wish them all the best in this new season of their lives. And we can’t wait to take a peek at little Breezy.

Nipsey Hussle’s The Marathon Clothing Will Host Pop-Up Shop in NYC
The Hussle continues. According to BET, the late Ermias Joseph Asghedom a.k.a. Nipsey Hussle’s The Marathon Clothing collection will be heading to New York City for a pop-up shop.
The pop-up shop will take place from November 29th to December 1st. It will be located at 430 W. 15th Street in Manhattan, and store will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The collection consists of 19 pieces, including two different color combos of the brand’s iconic California sneaker, a Marathon-themed MCS tracksuit, as well as various types of graphic T-shirts and matching jackets and pants.
Started in 2017, The Marathon Clothing brand played a major part in Hussle’s business legacy. The line, which specializes in streetwear fashions, was started by Hussle, along with Steve Carless, Karen Civil, and Hussle’s brother Samiel Asghedom, who opened their first brick and mortar store in the neighborhood where he grew up, on Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard.
Even in death, Hussle’s efforts are helping the community and people he set out to assist. All of the proceeds from the sale of the PUMA x TMC Collection go toward the organization his family has established, the Neighborhood Nip Foundation. The organization seeks to continue Hussle’s legacy by “empowering the South Los Angeles community and neighborhoods alike across the globe.”
The 33-year-old Hussle was murdered in front of his Marathon Clothing store, located in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. A petition was started to rename the intersection of Slauson Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard near Hussle’s store Marathon Clothing to “Nipsey Hussle Square.” On the day of his funeral, the City Council announced it was set to be renamed Ermias “Nipsey Hussle” Asghedom Square to honor him and his contributions to the neighborhood.
It was just announced that the late legend is up for multiple Grammys for Best Rap Performance, Best Rap/Sung Performance, and Best Rap Song for his tracks “Racks In The Middle” and “Higher” with DJ Khaled and John Legend.

Lifetime Somali activist Almaas Elman viciously murdered in Mogadishu
A social justice activist and aid worker, who devoted her life to peacekeeping missions in her native land, was murdered in the capital of Somalia on Wednesday.
Almaas Elman, whose family fled to Canada after the bloody Somali civil war in the early 1990s but who came back to assist in rebuilding efforts, was shot and killed in Mogadishu, according to The New York Times.

Brig. Gen. Zakia Hussein, deputy commissioner of the Somali Police Force, confirmed Elman’s death and said police are conducting an investigation. Hussein said Elman was shot and killed while sitting in a car at the Halane complex, a heavily guarded compound with African Union troops and United Nations reps near Mogadishu’s international airport, The Times reported.
Said Fadhaye, who works as a freelance videographer in Mogadishu, posted on Facebook that he was in the car with Elman when she was killed. Writing in his native language, Fadhaye called the shooting an “attack,” and said Elman “died on my lap.”
Elman hails from a family of Somalian peace activists who centered their work on social justice, women’s rights and rehabilitating children who are the youngest victims of Somalia’s longstanding war. Her father, Elman Ali Ahmed, was murdered in Mogadishu in 1996 because of his activism, according to The Times.
Elman’s mother, Fartuun Adan, founded the Elman Peace Center in 1990 to promote the protection of human rights in Somalia.

The family fled Somalia’s civil war in the early 1990s for Canada but returned in 2010 to help build back up their beloved country.
“I am shocked to the core,” Mohamed Dubo, a communication specialist in Mogadishu, told The New York Times. “(It’s) hard to internalize this death.”
Almaas Elman formerly worked at the Somali Embassy in Kenya. More recently, she served as a consultant for the European Union delegation to Somalia. In 2017, she married Zakaria Hersi, who works as a tech entrepreneur.

Strip club exec wants Kanye West to bring his Sunday Service to his club
On the heels of Kanye West’s latest controversial comment, one that appears to link strip clubs with sex trafficking, a New York strip club exec is asking Ye to drop by his strip club and bring his Sunday Service gospel show along with him when he comes.
Andrew Zarian, vice president at Sapphire New York, a gentleman’s club located on 39th Street in New York City’s midtown, extended an invitation to West following the Jesus Is King rapper’s appearance at Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church in Houston, according to Complex.

“I saw you recently brought your Sunday Service inside Harris County Jail and the Baker Street Jail in Houston. You followed that up by bringing the Sunday Service to Joel Osteen’s Lakewood Church and delivered a powerful message in your signature stream of consciousness style, making several… interesting… statements throughout,” Zarian wrote in the letter, which was also shared in a tweet on Thursday.
We have extended an offer to @kanyewest to deliver his faith-filled concert in a new venue, to a new audience of Gentlemen’s Club entertainers, service staff & more. We’d love to open the doors to our 39th street location in NYC & have him & his choir grace us with their presence pic.twitter.com/K0lpiKS9T7
— Sapphire 39 Midtown (@NYSapphire39) November 21, 2019
Zarian mentioned West’s prior “affinity” to adult entertainment in the letter, and said the performance would be in lockstep with West’s past performance venues, which have included the jails, a concert venue, a college, and an open field, among other stops.
“Given your affinity for adult entertainment, we wanted to extend you an offer to deliver your free faith-filled concert in a new venue and to a new audience of Gentlemen’s Club entertainers, service staff, and more,” Zarian added in the letter. “We’d love to open the doors to our…location…and have you and your choir grace us with your presence.”

Zarian said his team is dead “serious about making this happen,” and asked that West reach out to him if he is “legitimately interested in our offer.”
Zarian also submitted to Yeezy and his team that this is an excellent opportunity for him to witness. The strip club head honcho reminded the rap star turned evangelist, that it was because of his addiction to adult entertainment that he turned to God. This would be the ideal setting for him to deliver his message to those who probably would be most in need:
“We wanted to extend an offer to Kanye given his affinity for adult entertainment. He has long been outspoken about his indulgences and has recently cited adult entertainment as one of the reasons he turned to God. We think this presents him with a unique opportunity to spread his message and deliver a powerful sermon to a new audience in a new environment, following up on his recent appearances at prisons and a megachurch.”

In Osteen’s church on Sunday, West compared strip clubs to sex trafficking.
“They got posters advertising sex trafficking because if there’s an advertisement for a strip club, that is advertising sex trafficking,” West told the congregation. “At the end of the night, when they close up, the manager says, ‘How much traffic do we have?’” he added.
No word yet on whether Ye will take Zarian up on his offer.

Morehouse, Spelman, and Prairie View University Receive $3 Million in Grants
Morehouse College, Prairie View A&M University, and Spelman College received $3 million in grants from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, The Rockefeller Foundation, and The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support the development of faculty on their campuses.
Prairie View received $1 million from Mellon. Carnegie awarded $1 million to Morehouse and $500,000 to Spelman, which also received $500,000 from Rockefeller.
“Faculty are the heart of a liberal arts education. At historically black colleges and universities, heavy teaching loads often get in the way of professional development, time for research and/or creative production. Yet, time for these activities not only keeps faculty current in their fields but provides undergraduate research opportunities for our students,” said Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D., president of Spelman, said in a press release. “We are grateful for the foresight of the Carnegie, Rockefeller, and Mellon foundations in making this historic gift to Spelman, Morehouse and Prairie View. We anticipate using a portion of the funds as well to document and disseminate the innovative teaching strategies that have accounted for the academic success of Spelman students.”
The grants allow the colleges to provide an array of faculty support structures and require all three institutions to share best practices with each other and with the broader HBCU community.
“Our founder Andrew Carnegie was concerned about the lack of educational opportunities for African Americans. As a result, in 1900 he made a grant of $20,000 to Tuskegee University to fund the construction of its library, the first of 13 grants to the institution,” said Vartan Gregorian, Ph.D., president of Carnegie. “Throughout its history, Carnegie Corporation of New York has continued to invest in a range of organizations serving African Americans, including historically black colleges and universities, civil rights organizations, the National Urban League since 1921, the United Negro College Fund since 1946, as well as more recent grants to support reforms in K-12 and higher education. We are pleased to help ensure the future health and welfare of the faculties of our country’s HBCUs through these latest grants to Morehouse and Spelman colleges.”
Morehouse College plans on using the grant funds to support the new program, Modeling 21st Century Faculty Development at HBCUs. The program will help make the college more competitive in attracting and retaining top talent by providing monies for startup packages and robust opportunities for faculty growth and development.
Prairie View will use the funding from Mellon to continue enhancing the ranks of its faculty by identifying effective practices in faculty recruitment, advancement, and retention.
Spelman will use the grant to support faculty plans to grow the curriculum in areas of emerging importance and nurtures their trajectories as leaders on campus and in their respective fields. Spelman’s strategic plan identifies faculty as “The Spelman Difference” because the college’s distinguished and dedicated faculty are the drivers of student success.
