Chadwick Boseman gave part of his ‘21 Bridges’ salary to Sienna Miller

‘It was about the most astounding thing that I’ve experienced.’

Sienna Miller has revealed that Chadwick Boseman took a pay cut to help boost her salary on the 2019 film 21 Bridges

The British actress opened up about Boseman’s generosity a month after he died following a four-year battle with colon cancer. In a new interview for Empire’s October issue, Miller says the Black Panther star pursued her to appear opposite him in the action thriller, but she was hesitant to sign on.

“He produced 21 Bridges, and had been really active in trying to get me to do it,” Miller tells the publication. “I’d been working non-stop and I was exhausted, but then I wanted to work with him.”

Once she joined the production, Boseman went an extra mile by donating part of his salary to increase her fee.

“I didn’t know whether or not to tell this story, and I haven’t yet. But I am going to tell it, because I think it’s a testament to who he was,” Miller says. “This was a pretty big budget film, and I know that everybody understands about the pay disparity in Hollywood, but I asked for a number that the studio wouldn’t get to,” she explained.

“And because I was hesitant to go back to work and my daughter was starting school and it was an inconvenient time, I said, ‘I’ll do it if I’m compensated in the right way.’ And Chadwick ended up donating some of his salary to get me to the number that I had asked for. He said that that was what I deserved to be paid,” Miller added.

“It was about the most astounding thing that I’ve experienced,” she continues. “That kind of thing just doesn’t happen. He said, ‘You’re getting paid what you deserve, and what you’re worth.’ It’s just unfathomable to imagine another man in that town behaving that graciously or respectfully.”

Miller says the reaction she receives from some of her male colleagues after she speaks about her experience with Boseman is priceless.

“In the aftermath of this, I’ve told other male actor friends of mine that story and they all go very very quiet and go home and probably have to sit and think about things for a while. But there was no showiness. It was, ‘Of course I’ll get you to that number, because that’s what you should be paid,’” she says.

Although Boseman is best known for Black Panther, he starred in several important projects throughout his incredible career. In 42, he played trailblazing baseball legend Jackie Robinson, and took on the role of Thurgood Marshall in Marshall.

theGRIO previously reported, artist Nikkolas Smith unveiled his touching tribute mural to Boseman last week, located at Downtown Disney. It is the shopping district located right outside of the Disneyland theme parks in Anaheim, California.

The installation, entitled “King Chad,” shows Boseman giving the “Wakanda Forever” salute to a young child wearing a Black Panther mask.

According to data leak, Trump campaign tried to suppress Black vote in 2016

Trump’s campaign is being accused of ‘deterring’ Black voters.

Donald Trump’s campaign is being accused of trying to deter Black voters in the 2016 election.

Read More: CDC director Redfield raises alarm over Trump’s new virus adviser

According to a report by British News Channel 4, the Trump campaign compiled data on over 200 million American voters into eight ‘audiences,’ for online ad targeting purposes. One group titled “Deterrence” was beside the names of 3.5 million Black voters, the citizens’ Trump did not want to vote on election day, per the report.

These groups were created to determine which ads would serve various audiences. For example, African Americans in Georgia are only 32% of the population but made up 61% of the deterrence category. Black people account for 22% of the population in North Carolina but represented 46% of the “Deterrence” group.

According to Channel 4, the leaked data is made up of more than 5,000 files and 5 terabytes—making it one of the largest leaked files in history.

But back in 2016 when PBS spoke to the Trump campaign’s digital director, Brad Parscale, he denied targeting Black people.

“No. We didn’t write any kind of suppression and/or campaigns in any way that ran to—I don’t think we actually—we didn’t run on a campaign, I believe,” Parscale told PBS. ”I would say I’m nearly 100 percent sure we did not run any campaigns that targeted even African-Americans…I would take what they do and how they consume information. The things they buy, the jobs they have, [would] be more important than the color of their skin.”

It is unclear exactly how Trump’s team used the list to deter Black voters but The Daily Beast reports that Cambridge Analytical, the former British political consulting firm pushed “dark posts” to tarnish Trump’s opponent, Hilary Clinton.  One example of this was an infamous video from 1996 when Clinton referenced Black “super-predators.” In a document viewed by Channel 4 News, Cambridge Analytical claims the Trump campaign spent $55K on these types of ads in Georgia alone.

“We use data… but it’s to motivate, persuade, and encourage folks to participate. We don’t use the data to say who can we deter and keep at home. That just seems, fundamentally, it’s a shift from the notion of democracy,” Jamal Watkins of the NAACP said once he was presented with the news of Channel 4’s findings.

Rashad Robinson, a spokesperson for the Color Of Change PAC, released a statement obtained by theGrio when news of the leaked data broke today.

“This investigation confirms what we’ve always known: Trump and his campaign are actively trying to keep Black Americans from voting. But what’s most disturbing here is not just the campaign’s clear intent to suppress Black votes; it’s the brazen steps they took to research, target, and discourage Black voters.”

Robinson continues, “We are just five weeks away from a monumental election and, while the Trump campaign looks to lure Black voters with a flimsy policy agenda, we are seeing his true colors. The findings of this investigation should be a wake-up call to Black voters. This November, we must show up at the polls in record numbers and vote for an administration that supports free and fair elections.”

Maryland man accused of killing woman, son who witnessed murder

Authorities say Andre Ricardo ‘Poo’ Briscoe shot the child in the head and mouth to prevent him from talking to police.

A Maryland drug dealer has been charged with the 2015 killings of a young mother and her 7-year-old son.

Andre Ricardo “Poo” Briscoe, 37, was already in custody when a grand jury indicted him last week on federal drug and firearms charges tied to the murder of Jennifer Jeffrey, 31, and her son Kester Browne. The shootings occurred in their Southwest Baltimore home on May 27, 2015, PEOPLE reports.

Briscoe was first arrested in May on drug distribution charges related to the date of the killings. Judge Richard D. Bennett outlined in a court filing last month that Jeffrey was a heroin dealer and Briscoe was her “weekly or twice weekly customer.”

“From March through October 2015, Briscoe conspired with others to distribute heroin,” reads a statement from the Department of Justice. “The indictment alleges that on May 27, 2015, in connection with his drug distribution, Briscoe committed an armed robbery and during the course of the robbery shot and killed Jennifer Jeffrey and Jeffrey’s seven-year-old child.”

Read More: Maryland man gets year in prison for hosting large parties, ignoring gathering limits

Authorities say Briscoe shot the child in the head and mouth to prevent him from telling police what he witnessed.

“These murders are shocking and unconscionable,” the statement quotes U.S. Attorney Rob Hur as saying. “This indictment should make one thing crystal clear: If you touch a witness, especially a child, the full weight of federal law enforcement will be harnessed to find you and bring you to justice. And we will not stop investigating until we bring to justice anyone else who was involved.”

Briscoe’s attorney, William Purpura, told The Sun that the timing of the charges against his client are quite suspect. While there is no statute of limitations for murder, the killings are connected to federal drug trafficking charges, and prosecutors are subject to the filing time limits.

“It’s kind of perplexing and mysterious and concerning to Mr. Briscoe,” Purpura told the paper.

“There’s going to be an issue of when the killings actually occurred,” he said, noting that Briscoe can prove he was living in Cambridge at the time of the murders.

Briscoe has been charged with “federal drug distribution charges, use of a firearm to commit murder in relation to the drug trafficking crimes, killing a witness to prevent communication with law enforcement, and being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition,” the statement indicates.

If convicted, he faces either death or life in prison.

When asked by Jake Tapper, host of CNN’s State Of The Union about Biden’s gaffes, Mrs. Biden told the journalist to aim his questions in another direction. “Your husband has been known to make the occasional gaffe…” Tapper said before being cut off by his subject.

“You can’t even go there. After Donald Trump, you cannot even say the word gaffe,” Biden said.

Tapper laughed at her response but pushed on, “I can’t even say the word gaffe?”

“Nope. Done. It’s gone,” she responded, saying the issue is “Over. So over.”

During the socially distanced interview, the potential first lady also shared her response to Trump not being fully committed to a peaceful transition of power if Biden were to win the November election.

“Joe intends on an orderly transition of power,” she said. “This is Donald Trump’s America. This is the chaos and, just going off the cuff with this comment or that comment. No, we go back to Joe Biden. We have calm, we have steady leadership, we don’t have all this chaos in America,” she said.

Mrs. Biden said Joe is prepared for the upcoming presidential debate.

And so I can’t wait for the American people to see Joe, to see that statesman up there in front of the American public.”

Doc Rivers out as Clippers’ coach after seven seasons

The move comes about two weeks after the Clippers squandered a 3-1 series lead and lost to the Denver Nuggets

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — Doc Rivers would easily be considered the best coach in Los Angeles Clippers history. Most wins. Most playoff appearances. Top winning percentage.

And now he’s out.

Rivers announced in a statement posted to Twitter on Monday that he is not returning as coach. The move comes about two weeks after the Clippers wasted a 3-1 series lead and lost to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference semifinals.

“Doc has been a terrific coach for the Clippers, an incredible ambassador, and a pillar of strength during tumultuous times,” Clippers Chairman Steve Ballmer said in a statement. “He won a heck of a lot of games and laid a foundation for this franchise.”

The Clippers said Rivers and Ballmer came to the decision jointly.

Rivers spent seven seasons with the Clippers, making the playoffs in six of them — major success for a once-woebegone franchise. This season’s team, with the summer 2019 additions of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, was expected to compete for a championship.

But losing three closeout opportunities to the Nuggets cost the Clippers a chance to play the Los Angeles Lakers in the West finals, and likely played a role in Rivers not remaining as coach.

“When I took this job, my goals were to make this a winning basketball program, a free agent destination, and bring a championship to this organization,” Rivers wrote in the statement. “While I was able to accomplish most of my goals, I won’t be able to see them all through.”

Rivers went 356-208 over seven seasons with the Clippers, taking them to the West second round three times. But the franchise has never made the conference finals, and going 0-3 in chance to get there this year was a devastating blow.

Expectations were high, and on the night the season ended, Rivers took responsibility.

“We didn’t meet them. That’s the bottom line,” Rivers said on Sept. 15 after the Game 7 loss. “I’m the coach and I’ll take any blame for it. But we didn’t meet our expectations, clearly.”

This was the third time Rivers saw one of his teams waste a 3-1 series lead. It also happened with eighth-seeded Orlando against top-seeded Detroit in 2003, and with the Clippers against Houston in 2015.

The Clippers went 49-23 in the regular season, the fourth-best record in franchise history. Rivers has been the coach in five of the Clippers’ six best regular seasons.

Rivers thanked fans for their support.

“Though it was a disappointing end to our season, you are right there and I know what this team is capable of accomplishing with your support,” Rivers said. “Thank you to all the players, coaches, and staff for helping us get here. Most importantly, thank you to the fans. We went through a lot, and I am grateful for my time here.”

The Clippers’ job becomes the sixth current vacancy in the NBA, along with Houston, Indiana, Philadelphia, Oklahoma City and New Orleans. New York, Brooklyn and Chicago have already filled vacancies in their offseasons.

Rivers’ departure means the league also is down to four Black coaches currently with jobs: Lloyd Pierce in Atlanta, J.B. Bickerstaff in Cleveland, Monty Williams in Phoenix and Dwane Casey in Detroit. Rivers is the third Black coach to either step down or be fired this offseason, joining Nate McMillan in Indiana and Alvin Gentry in New Orleans.

Sam Cassell and Tyronn Lue were both assistants on this Clippers team under Rivers. Lue already has won an NBA title in Cleveland, and Rivers has long said that Cassell is ready to become a head coach. It’s possible they could be among the candidates to take over.

“I am immeasurably grateful to Doc for his commitment and contributions to the Clippers and the city of Los Angeles,” Ballmer said. “I am also extremely confident in our front office and our players. We will find the right coach to lead us forward and help us reach our ultimate goals. We will begin the search and interview process immediately.”

Charlize Theron posts rare photo of daughters on National Daughters Day

Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron usually keeps her life with her African American adopted daughters private

Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron is generally a private person, so celebrity watchers were surprised to see that she recently posted pictures of her daughters, Jackson and August, on National Daughters Day. The South African-born actress adopted Jackson in 2012 and August in 2015. Both are African-American children born in the United States, according to multiple sources.

The 45-year-old won the Best Actress Oscar in 2004 for her role as serial killer Aileen Wournos in Monster. In 2019, she portrayed controversial ex-Fox News and NBC host, Megyn Kelly, in the sexual harassment movie Bombshell.

Theron, who grew up in South Africa during apartheid, told NPR in 2019 while promoting Bombshell that she didn’t choose to adopt from any particular race despite her African heritage.

“I cast a very wide net. I wanted to believe that somehow my child would find me in the way that we were just meant to be, ” Theron told NPR.

“So I wasn’t specific with anything. … In whatever country they would allow me as a single woman to adopt, that’s where I filed. And it just happened to be that both my children ended up being American. They were born in the United States and they both happened to be African American. Everything that I hoped would happen during my adoption process did happen because these two babies were meant to be in my life — and they’re my children. ..”

That same year, Theron revealed that Jackson, 7, was a transgender girl, quelling online speculation that started when fans would see Jackson in dresses when Theron was snapped by the paparazzi.

“Yes, I thought she was a boy, too,” Theron told The Daily Mail. “Until she looked at me when she was three years old and said, ‘I am not a boy!’

“So there you go. I have two beautiful daughters who, just like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see thrive.”

Theron said that she at first struggled to use the right pronouns and would talk to the press at first by identifying Jackson as her son. She told Pridesource that now that she’s corrected herself, she hasn’t said much more about it, for good reason.

Willow Smith responds to Jada Pinkett Smith’s ‘entanglement’ with August Alsina

Willow Smith told her mother Jada Pinkett how proud she was of her on the latest episode of the ‘Red Table Talk’

The word entanglement may be the fun word of 2020 but for the Smith family it held weight.

On the latest episode of Red Table Talk, Jada Pinkett Smith opened up to her daughter Willow Smith about what talking about her love affair meant for her.

Back in July, singer August Alsina revealed in an interview that he had been seeing Pinkett Smith, the wife of Will Smith, romantically. He claimed the Smiths were on a break and he asked Smith’s permission to date his spouse. When the news broke, the family and Alsina became the focus of memes and jokes across social media.

As theGrio reported, Pinkett-Smith finally brought herself to the “red table” and revealed to her audience she did engage in an “entanglement” with the singer.

“At the end of the day, I don’t like how all of this came to be. That doesn’t matter, it’s all love, honestly,” Pinkett Smith said. “That would be something I wouldn’t comment on at all. I feel like it’s a situation I consider private.”

Smith was the guest of the episode and followed up with, “But now Black Twitter has claimed it as they business.”

Pinkett Smith talked to Willow about the situation on the latest episode of the Red Table Talk which aired Monday. Despite their family being the butt of jokes for months, Willow told her mother she was happy about her being forthcoming.

“I want to put it on the table. I’m so proud of you. To be able to see you and Dad do that, for me, that was like, ‘OK, that’s the real deal,'” said Willow. “That’s real love.”

Pinkett Smith’s mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones, who also sits as a regular host on the show, praised her daughter for having, “courage.” Willow expressed how impressed she was about how her parents handled the situation.

“Like, when you can be like, ‘I’m with you,” she said. “I’m going to stand by you and I’m going to hold your hand’… that’s really important.’”

After the explosion of press around the word “entanglement,” Alsina released a record with the same name featuring Rick Ross. The single peaked at number five on Billboard’s R&B Digital Songs Sales chart.

Kamala Harris says to ‘vote as if your life, your choice depends on it,’ at Shaw University

Sen. Kamala Harris spoke at Shaw University in North Carolina and encouraged civic engagement at an event with Black female voters

Sen. Kamala Harris was in North Carolina today, campaigning at two critical events as the Democratic vice-presidential nominee shores up support in the Black community.

Harris spoke at Shaw University in Raleigh, one of the state’s historically Black colleges and universities. The Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, which the late Rep. John Lewis once led, was founded 60 years ago at Shaw. Harris, a graduate of Howard University, one of the nation’s most prominent HBCU’s, hailed the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg as “a giant, not only of the court, but of American life.”

The vice presidential hopeful encouraged voting as she stood at Estey Hall, the nation’s first university building made to educate Black women in America.

“Vote as if your life, your choice, depends on it because it does,” Harris said.

Harris declared that healthcare would be gutted with Judge Amy Coney Barrett as a replacement for Ginsburg on the High Court.

“Getting rid of the Affordable Care Act will take us backward to a time where you could charge a woman more for her health care than you can charge a man just because she’s a woman. Getting rid of the Affordable Care Act will take us backward to a time when pregnancy could be considered a pre-existing condition,” said Harris. “This relentless obsession with over turning the Affordable Care Act is driven entirely by a blind rage toward President Obama.”

Harris then met with Black voters for a “Sister to Sister Meets Shop Talk” roundtable after her address. She insisted accountability and consequence would be prominent in a Biden administration.

“I have said many times and in many situations, America has yet to value the sanctity of Black life and has yet to treat Black life as fully human,” she said.

She encouraged those listening to “honor the ancestors and vote,” and that there was power in the Black vote. Harris also referenced how Black voters were targeted with “surgical precision” in 2013 when North Carolina instituted a strict voter ID law enacted which was struck down in 2016.

Michael B. Jordan Raises Money For Black Women’s Health With Sneaker Raffle

Black women experience unique challenges when it comes to accessing proper healthcare and actor Michael B. Jordan wants to help.

The Black Panther star partnered with style platform GOAT for an exclusive sneaker raffle to raise funds for GirlTrek, the nation’s largest public health nonprofit dedicated to Black girls and women.

The sneakers–custom fits inspired by Jordan’s favorite movies — including The Nightmare Before Christmas, Coming To America, and The Last Dragon — are crafted by Los Angeles designer the Shoe Surgeon.

“I’ve loved sneakers since I was a kid and there are so many people in the sneaker community that inspire me. Coming up at a time where I couldn’t afford all these kicks, I would use my imagination to think about what my sneaker would look like if I had a chance to build it,” said Jordan in a press statement.

“Knowing that designing a pair of kicks has always been something I wanted to do, my best friend Sterling Brim introduced me to the Shoe Surgeon, who provided me with an opportunity to combine my passion for sneakers and film and design some incredible sneakers inspired by some of my favorite movies. I’m excited to partner with GOAT to showcase my custom kicks to a community that loves sneakers as much as I do. More importantly, I’m excited to help bring awareness to the health movement amongst African American women, a cause that’s close to me and my family.”

The raffle ended on September 27 with the winners expected to be announced on September 28 through the GOAT app. The proceeds will go toward initiatives targeting to help Black girls and women with access to quality healthcare.

“At GirlTrek, we lace up our sneakers and walk each day as a declaration of self-care. So, we’re beyond thrilled that Michael B. Jordan recognizes the beauty and power of Black women walking in the direction of our [happiest, healthiest] lives,” said Jewel Bush, GirlTrek’s chief of external affairs, in a statement.

“As the largest health movement for Black women in the country, it truly is a gift when Black men are passionate about Black women’s health and ready to join us on the frontlines,” she added.

Over the years, Paris has been racking up knowledge in business while she was assisting her mother, Senica Thompson, in running her businesses, a boutique and a salon near where her new beauty supply shop is now located.

Despite her young age, she also earned the respect of her relatively older staff including 22-year old Giselle Ashby who said, “Paris, she’s like a little sister to me. I respect her. It’s fun.”

Aside from being an entrepreneur, Paris, who is a straight-A student, also plans to major in pre-med to achieve her dream of being an orthopedic pediatric surgeon. She is an incoming junior year high school student and is already taking college courses. She is a busy teenager but she doesn’t forget to enjoy from time to time.

“I don’t really have any more free time, but when I do, I try to go out with my friends,” said Paris. “Walking in here every morning, it makes me feel awesome.”

AOC: Trump paid less taxes ‘than waitresses, undocumented immigrants’

The N.Y. Democrat tweeted that ‘Donald Trump has never cared for our country more than he cares for himself.’

The fallout from the New York Times report about the incredibly low amount that President Donald Trump paid in federal income taxes in 2016 and 2017 continues.

New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that she “paid thousands of dollars a year in taxes *as a bartender.*”

“Trump paid $750,” the Democrat continued. “He contributed less to funding our communities than waitresses & undocumented immigrants.”

Ocasio-Cortez wrote that “Donald Trump has never cared for our country more than he cares for himself.” She called the president, “a walking scam.”

In a second tweet, Ocasio-Cortez recalled the controversy that surrounded her in October 2019 when she got an $80 haircut at a D.C. hair salon and spent $180 on lowlights.

At the time, Richard Manning, president of Americans for Limited Government, said: “it is a bad look to spend hundreds of dollars to get your hair done to make a video decrying income inequality.”

“Last year Republicans blasted a firehose of hatred + vitriol my way because I treated myself to a $250 cut & lowlights on my birthday,” she tweeted. “Where’s the criticism of their idol spending $70k on hairstyling?”

“Oh, it’s nowhere because they’re spineless, misogynistic hypocrites? Got it.”

The representative was referencing a line in the report that Trump wrote off $70,000 in hairstyling on his tax returns.

Fellow Democrats denounced Trump following the release of the bombshell report.

“Donald Trump paid just $750 in income taxes in 2016 and 2017,” Senator Elizabeth Warren wrote, “He knows better than anyone that there’s one set of rules for the wealthy and giant corporations and another for hardworking Americans—and instead of using his power to fix it, he’s taken advantage of it at every turn.”

President Trump disputed the report calling it “totally fake news” at a press conference on Sunday.

A lawyer for the Trump Organization has said that “most, if not all, of the facts, appear to be inaccurate.”

The New York Times stands by its reporting.

Megan Thee Stallion breaks silence following Tory Lanez album: ‘F–k you’

Megan, the on-fire rapstress, has a couple choice words for Tory Lanez in response to the LP he dropped last week.

Rap sensation Megan Thee Stallion returned to Instagram this weekend with a handful of messages after the release of Tory Lanez‘ new album, Daystar.

In the first post, MTS shows off her new collaboration with FashioNova to create a pair of jeans for tall women.

“Nothing REAL can be threatened,” she wrote, “Oh yeah, and remember when I said I was collaborating with @fashionnova to make jeans for tall women. These are the first samples (fire emoji) coming soon.”

Her second post was far less subliminal, with the “WAP” rapper posing face-first to the camera wearing a set of rings that spell out, “F**K YOU.”

Supporters of Tory Lanez chimed in as well, with one writing, “Tory is innocent. How could you accuse a king like him?”

Friday morning, Lanez released Daystar, his 17-track album littered with diss songs about Megan Thee Stallion, as well as Kehlani and JoJo, who both removed Lanez from songs on their projects.

“There is a time to stay silent. And a time to speak,” he captioned a photo of the album’s cover. “I said all I could say on this.”

The LP received mixed reviews, but it did reach #1 on Apple Music this weekend.

Daystar was Lanez’s first response to Megan’s Instagram Live declaration, on which she said definitively that he shot her following a party the two attended on July 11 at the home of Kylie Jenner.

Lanez was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon following the incident but has not been charged with assault.
