Rihanna says new music coming ‘sooner than you think’

Fans have been waiting four years for new music. The singer’s last album was released in 2016.

While promoting her new Fenty Skin line, Rihanna gave her loyal fans, the Navy, an update on her hotly anticipated “R9” album.

Speaking to Access Hollywood in a video interview about the skincare line that launches Friday (July 31), Rihanna confirmed that she has music coming “sooner than you think.”

“I love making music, so I never neglect it. I always get to it and get back to it,” she said ahead of the virtual Fenty Skin launch party Wednesday (July 30). “But there’s other things on the carousel now, so I have to pay attention to everything and stay on top of everything,” the singer explained.

“I’m just that way, and music sometimes takes a hit naturally because these other things are crucial in terms of timelines and production, and there’s so much that people will never understand that goes on behind the scenes,” she added.

The Navy has been waiting four years for new music. Rihanna’s last album, “Anti,” was released in 2016. Since then, the Barbadian beauty has been busy expanding her Fenty empire, which includes the Fenty Beauty line, Savage x Fenty lingerie collection and the Fenty fashion brand.

“Music is still my first love, so I can’t wait to put something out that I’m really proud of and excited about,” she tells Access Hollywood.  “It is probably gonna be sooner than my fans think, but I’m just gonna leave that alone,” she teased.

“I got enough stress and questions and ‘R9, where’s the album?’ comments,” Rihanna continued. “They don’t leave me alone, but I haven’t neglected them. I still gotchu, music is still my baby.”

Prior to the launch party on Wednesday for Fenty Skin, RiRi spoke further about her upcoming ninth studio in a video interview with album Entertainment Tonight

“When I am ready to put it out in the way that I feel fit, it’s gonna come out. And you’re not going to be disappointed when it happens. It’s going to be worth it,” she said.

Rihanna’s new gender neutral skin-care brand was made for all skin tones and types.

“Everybody has skin, and everybody should take care of it, so I never approached skincare or making this line from a gender standpoint. I didn’t want anyone to feel excluded or be excluded,” Rihanna said.
