Postal union endorses Joe Biden for president

The postal carriers union blasted President Donald Trump for refusing to provide financial relief.

Issuing a staunch warning that the “very survival” of the U.S. Postal Service is at stake, the National Association of Letter Carriers endorsed presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden for president on Friday.

Reuters reported that the postal carriers union blasted President Donald Trump for refusing “to provide the necessary financial relief that would strengthen the agency during this pandemic.”

Neither the president nor any of his respresentatives have commented.

The union referred to Biden as a “fierce ally and defender” of the postal service. They also praised Biden’s running mate, Senator Kamala Harris for advocating for a healthy and financially-stable post office.

Democrats have been vocal in their criticism of Trump-supporter and new Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, accusing him of carrying out Trump’s desire to disrupt the postal service by delaying mail and leaving much of it undelivered.

Trump recently said, “They want $25 billion for the post office. Now, they need that money in order to have the post office work so it can take all these millions and millions of ballots.” He went on to say, “But if they don’t get those two items, that means you can’t have universal mail-in voting because they’re not equipped to have it.”

On Friday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer cited Trump’s remarks while criticizing their actions towards the postal service.

Pelosi and Schumer further said, “The president, his cronies and republicans in congress continue to wage their all-out assault on the Postal Service and its role in ensuring the integrity of the 2020 election.”

Pelosi and Schumer also said that Trump made it clear that he will manipulate the operations of the post office to guarantee his re-election. They added that President Trump’s own words confirm that “he needs to cheat to win.”

According to Reuters, Trump said he would support giving $25 billion to the Postal Service if he won other priorities in a coronavirus relief bill.
