The former Vice President tells host, ‘Black women have supported me my whole career’
Former Vice President Joe Biden has narrowed down his list of potential VP candidates for his 2020 Presidential run. According to Biden, there are four Black women on the list.
The presumptive Democratic presidential nominee was one of the first guests on the premiere of The ReidOut hosted by Joy Reid.

“I am not committed to naming any, but the people I’ve named, and among them are four Black women,” Biden told Reid.
In recent weeks, the names of several Black women have been whispered as being on the Biden VP shortlist. Sen. Kamala Harris, Rep. Val Demings, Rep. Karen Bass, former national security adviser Susan Rice, and Atlanta mayor, Keisha Lance Bottoms have all been mentioned.
Former Georgia gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams was also seen as a strong contender early in the process, but her name has been mentioned less in recent weeks.
Other potential picks include Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
Biden explained that his campaign is doing an analysis of each potential VP nominee and that process will take about six more weeks. He stated that there would then be more personal conversations.
He is expected to choose a nominee one month before accepting the party’s nomination at the all-virtual Democratic National Convention in August.
“Black women have supported me my whole career,” Biden told Reid, “I have been loyal and they have been loyal to me—and so it’s important that my administration, I promise you, will look like America.”
“Both from vice president to Supreme Court to cabinet positions to every major position in the White House. It’s critically important that be the case.”

In an article called, “Joe Biden’s Vice President Could Be the Most Powerful in History,” from The Atlantic, writer Christian Paz posited that the VP nominee would also be the likely presidential nominee in 2024.
“Joe Biden knows the value of having a vice president with lots of responsibility, and Joe Biden is going to inherit an epic disaster.” Dan Pfeiffer, a former Obama senior adviser and co-host of Pod Save America said.
